“Beware of fake news circulating online and always depend on reliable official sources for verified information,” it added.

The fake letter, dated June 8, claimed that the Ministry of Defence has directed the Chief of Defence Staff to “present updated proposals on operational planning and force employment” in a scheduled NSC meeting.

It added that these proposals will be reviewed for alignment with national objectives and submitted for the Defence Minister’s consideration and approval.

The fake letter mentioned that the present situation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir “reflects a favorable environment for advancing India’s long-term strategic objectives”.

However, the government has clarified that no such letter was issued by the Ministry of Defence or the Defence Secretary.
